How to use this map
- Major international gateways: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hong Kong. From any of them, most provincial capitals are a same-day train ride away.
- Red lines run 300–350 km/h — Beijing–Shanghai takes ~4.5 h, Beijing–Guangzhou ~8 h.
- Trip.com sells Chinese train tickets in English with foreign cards; 12306.cn is the official railway site (Chinese, account required).

- Laos — D87/D88 + D83-D86, 2x daily. running. 12306 app/site, 14-day window, passport required The only international EMU service — and the only one bookable online.
- Thailand (via Laos) — SRT 133/134 sleeper, daily. running. SRT D-Ticket online; ~35 min road transfer between Vientiane's two stations No through China–Thailand train until Thai HSR reaches Nong Khai (~2030).
- Vietnam — T8701/MR2 sleeper, daily. running. Counter only (passport): Nanning, Guilin North, Pingxiang; not on 12306. Resumed 2025-05-25 Beijing–Hanoi through cars 2x/week (Z5 + T8701). New Lao Cai–Hanoi line building for ~2030.
- Mongolia — K23/K24, weekly. running. CITS international ticket office (Beijing station) or agents; not on 12306. Resumed 2025-06-03 Also weekly Hohhot–Ulaanbaatar (033/034).
- North Korea — 95/96 daily; K27/K28 Beijing–Pyongyang 4x/week, daily. limited. Foreigners only via DPRK-accredited tour operators with NK visa. Resumed 2026-03-12 Western tourist access still gated — verify with operator.
- Russia — 401/402 shuttle + RZD elektrichka, daily (2 legs). limited. Suifenhe station counter, then RZD; also new Vladivostok–Mudanjiang tourist train (trial 2026-07) Shuttle resumed 2024-12-15.
- Russia — border shuttle, 2x/week. limited. Manzhouli station counter; resumed 2026-03-08 after 6 years Onward to Chita/Trans-Siberian on RZD.
- Kazakhstan — (was K9795/6), —. suspended. Suspended since 2020, no resumption. Alternatives: daily Urumqi–Almaty sleeper bus (~22h); Xi'an–Almaty tourist charter train (since 2025-05, packages only) Almaty–Astana onward on KTZ once resumed.
- Russia — K3 (Trans-Mongolian), K19 (Trans-Manchurian), —. suspended. Both suspended since Feb 2020; K3 ran an empty trial in 2025, no passenger resumption The two icons of pre-COVID Eurasian rail remain dead.
- India — none. No China–India rail link exists or is planned Rail-max route: train to Lhasa→Shigatse (permits required), road to Kathmandu, bus to Janakpur, then the Nepal–India Jaynagar line into Indian Railways.
